Hebrewbooks.org was founded in order to preserve old American Hebrew books that are out of print and/or circulation. Many American Rabbis wrote seforim (Hebrew books) in the early part of the 20th century. They have long since passed away and in many instances so has their holy work.

On Dec 29th, 2006, the Society for the Preservation of Hebrew Books announced a milestone in its efforts to save a vast treasury of rare Jewish scholarship. Over the past seven years, the Society has scanned more than 11,000 volumes of rare and out of print works which were in danger of being lost, destroyed or simply disintegrating due to the passage of time.

"Crowley has a great service bureau," said Aron Rosenberg, Director. "It was way worth it because of their service, quality and integrity of their work." These scanned files make up the new Friedberg and Ryzman edition of the collection, which is available at their website: www.hebrewbooks.org.

Each of the 11,000 books can be viewed as a Portable Document File (PDF). This format ensures that the books are preserved and available in their original state.
